Historical Background

Civil Registration in Mauritius dates back to the 18th century. The Central Civil Status Office in Port Louis holds records as far back as 1812 and the older ones that are of interest to genealogists are kept at the National Archives in the DBM Complex, Industrial Zone, Coromandel.

                                      Mission and Vision

(1) To operate a computerized system for all Civil Status Offices located across the State of Mauritius for registration of births, deaths and marriages and any other matter relating to the civil status of the citizens.

(2) To maintain a Civil Status Database for the generation of a unique identification number for each citizen of Mauritius at the time of birth registration.

(3) To implement a digitalized national identification system aimed at prohibiting duplication, falsification or fraudulent abstention of National Identity Cards.

(4) To provide a quality service to our customers and satisfy their needs.

(5) To provide the interest and confidence of Customers.

(6) To continually maintain and improve the Central Population Database.

(7) To foster team spirit, sense of belonging to the organization and commitment to the highest of quality and professionalism.
